Numerical evaluation of a Carnot battery system comprising a chemical heat storage/pump and a Brayton cycle

In this work, a novel Carnot battery system comprising chemical heat storage/pump (CHS/P) and Brayton cycle is presented. The reversible reactions selected for are the dehydration of calcium hydroxide hydration oxide. re-conversion reaction into electricity provided by cycle, in which working fluid supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2). This Battery compared to storage two-tank molten salt sensible (SHS) maximum temperature as 560°C. It demonstrated that round-trip efficiency CHS/P can range from 37.4% 41.7% when evaporation water output selected, respectively, 80°C or 160°C, while SHS reach up 40.3%. also estimated total volume required 66% smaller than system. exergy method was applied on both systems. analysis relative irreversibility systems shows under assumptions given work major loss occurs converting rather transferring sCO2.
